Look What’s Happening at West Madison

Kindness, the character word for the month of February!

 

Our week began with a 5th grade student, Kiara, telling about what kindness means to her.

 

Jump Rope for Heart donations are due by March 4th!

 

Our Goal is $7000.  We can do this!  We have raised over $2400 so far!  Let’s do this.  It is for a good cause!

 

Monday, at assembly we pulled a name for a big stuffed animal bear.  Amara W. won!

Learning about Inventions at the Space and Rocket Center

 

 

We are so excited to begin our ES2S Program!

Students were selected to participate in a leadership program to help new student feel welcomed at West Madison Elementary.

ES2S (Elementary Student to Student Program) is  a program that was started by the Military Connected Coalition.  This year is the first year to begin the program.  For many years there has been a program at the high school and the middle school.   West Madison was honored to be one of the first schools in Madison City and the state of Alabama to participate in  this program.

 

 

 

Students participated in an activity where they were challenged to keep a balloon in the air using their head, elbows, knees, etc. while holding hands.  They could not allow the balloon to touch the ground.  It was a difficult task.

 

Thank you to our PTA for providing such a fun time for the children at the first Parent Night Out.

Look What’s Happening at West Madison

Friday we had 2 special visitors, former West Madison students from Bob Jones!

They came to eat breakfast with of our students.  They will be returning every other Friday.

K Students hearing from a nurse from a local dentist office, “The importance of brushing Your Teeth!”

 

 

Teachers and staff members were treated to a special lunch, desserts, and a massage from PTA and Dr. Walbom and staff from Millar Chiropractic Clinic!

Thank you so much!  Teachers were appreciative!

WM Yearbooks for Sale

The final day to order a WM yearbook is Friday, March 4.  We have only sold 150 books so far.  We typically sale approximately 300 books.  Please don’t miss out!  The theme this year is “Picture This!”  There are lots of pictures of every event and every grade level.  Take the time to complete the form and send in your order today!

 

Our yearbook is developed completely by our 5/6 grade students with the help of Mrs. Tibbs and Mrs. McKnight.  I can’t wait to see it.

Look What’s Happening at West Madison

We have had a very eventful week this week.  We began with the First Grade presenting a  sweet program called “Forever Friends!”

 

 

Thank you so much Mrs. Newsome, first grade teachers and first grade students.  It was a very precious performance.

 

First Grade Mind Gear

Have you heard of an Hour of Code?  Well, we had an Hour of Chess!

Students had a wonderful time playing chess with each other and with students across the system on the computer through ChessKids.

Your child can even play chess at home with the program Chess Kids.  All students have an account.

Students just need to log on to chesskids.com!

 

Learning about being an entrepreneur with Biz World!

 Teacher Professional Development Day

We had a great afternoon of learning.  We learned about the new science standards.  We got into groups and completed an awesome activity.

Each group had to construct a tower that was at least 61 cm tall with index cards in 12 minutes.  The structure had to support a stuffed pigeon for 5 seconds.

Mrs. Goode, Bryan, Elliott and Creasy were the winning team.

 

 

Congratulations to  Samia  and Nathan   Their artwork will be on display at the Huntsville Museum of Art for Youth Art Month! This is a big deal! Go by and  see it March 12-May 1.
