PTA Fundraising – Coming Up – Aug. 28-September 8

Our one big fundraiser of the year, the Wildcat House Challenge, will begin on Monday, August 28th. We will kick off with students and faculty being sorted into one of four houses (Panthers, Cheetahs, Cougars, or Jaguars) and a Pep Rally to let the students know what to expect, show them the prizes, and get them excited. At the end of two weeks on September 8th we will have a school-wide party to celebrate the end of the challenge and to show students our appreciation for all their work. There will also be something special planned for the house that earns the most.

If you would like to get a head start, you can see more details and register your student at wmespta.org. Be sure to check back to the facebook page on Monday for our live video of the Pep Rally.

We have an excited once in a lifetime event happening on Monday, the 21st.  K-2 students had a presenter, Mrs. Wester come and share what an eclipse is and what is the best way to view it.

She shared about how to view the eclipse safely using a pin hole projector  made from paper.

I have included several links below from the NASA website where you can see several videos and pictures of the eclipse.  At the link below you  can also print a picture of the state of Alabama and then create a pin hole projector.  You would look at the ground with through the pin hole and you can see phases of the eclipse.

Welcome Back Everyone!

The first week back to school was pretty  amazing.  It was great seeing everyone and getting to know our new students.

Going and visiting classrooms this past week was the highlight of my day.  Teachers were doing getting to know you and team building activities.

One of the things I enjoyed the most was the 6th grade team building activities in PE.  The first activity, the students had to work in a group  to get all the members of their team across an imaginary river only stepping inside the hoola hoop.  It was great watching them work together to get across.

The other activity involved each member of the group holding hands while they figured out how to get untied.  The key:  they couldn’t drop hands.  They had to listen to each other and try different ideas.  They did a great job.
